  • You had to know this was coming!

Once upon a time there was a lady who had a dream.

When her dream did not come true she offered to help the new kid on the block. OK.

Anyway, you had to know this story was going to blow up along the way. I can't believe they allowed themselves to be sucker punched like this. Never underestimate the __________. The lady hasn't sung yet!

Clinton Denies White House Version of Jobsgate Scandal

    By Jeffrey Lord on 8.13.10 @ 6:09AM

    "Uh-oh.

Former President Bill Clinton, campaigning this week for Pennsylvania Democratic Senate nominee Joe Sestak, has been caught on video contradicting the Obama White House official statement on the Jobsgate scandal.

Not once. Not twice. But three times.

The scandal involved a February allegation by Sestak that the Obama White House offered him a job if he would back off a challenge to incumbent Democratic Senator Arlen Specter. After months of silence and controversy swirling around the issue, the White House was forced to admit it had in fact not only offered a position to Sestak but offered a choice of three to Colorado Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff. Romanoff was preparing a bid against incumbent Democratic Senator Michael Bennet, a race he lost to Bennet on Tuesday."

Full disclosure. I saw Pat Toomey yesterday on a meet and greet. I have also met and questioned Joe Sestak. He showed up in Arlen's place during the primary. He made Obama look conservative.

  • Looking up, Part 2

In my last post, I referenced that I developed an accountability tool to use with our local representatives. Being in the original tea party movements I felt that there was too much concentration on the negative aspects (bitching) and not enough concentration on providing solutions.

It was also our position that we must reject flawed premises and reframe arguments in a manner which would lead to solutions.

As a parent of a teenage daughter one thing I know is taboo is to try and hold my daughter to account when I have not articulated my expectations. With her carrying a weighted 4.1 and in dual enrollment, lame arguments would backfire. The same practical standards apply to dealing with our our elected representatives.

You could argue that they know what you expect. OK, in a perfect world. I am talking about being realistic. We made the choice to build platforms as start a starting point with our representatives, simply by articulating our expectations of them upfront..

    purchasef

    How do this work?

First I contact the representative. I try to do this in person. I inform them I will be sending them a letter shortly :

    812 001

In the letter we  clearly state,

"If you share the values asserted in this affirmation, we request that you return a signed copy of the attached affirmation so   that we may share it with our members. Conversely, if any of these affirmations are a cause of concern to you, we would certainly be open to discussing your concerns."

     812 003

Our primary focus is on those who represent us on the county and municipal level, then our state representatives . The reason is that we are focusing on the premise of dual sovereignty . This is much different than just "bitching".

This copyrighted program (post card and letter) has been embraced by representatives as a refreshing change and a new approach in establishing dialogue with them. The other difference between ourselves and other groups is that we incorporated from day one. It was our intent not to have "b sessions at the bar" , but rather to get into the fray to advocate change in public policy by engaging our elected representatives. The other advantage we have found is that being incorporated, we are "on paper", there is accountability and representatives know whom they are dealing with.

Hopefully that will answer some of the questions about how this program actually works. People may contact us for more information through our website at http://turnpa.com  using our contact form.

  • Looking up

I guess I came in on the backside of another tumult in xangaland. And now there is a decree that it will be all things positive. Really quite funny in a sardonic way.

Anyway, things really have been looking up since I took the challenge of some to get out from behind the keyboard and into the game .  It has been a year of intense analysis.

In the past year we have been able to remove and replace leadership in the county party system, alter the groundwork in an adjacent county and defeat the endorsed candidate for Lt. Governor in both counties. We placed 3 people on the ballot running for state positions. I came  within 350 votes of winning without spending a dime on the campaign,.

Saturday, I went to a fundraiser/pig roast for the candidate who ran for Lt. Governor and we recounted the success that is within the reach of people who have a vision, set goals and get other people to buy into that vision. When he got up to address his supporters he recognized the success and how the success transpired in putting him over the top in Clearfield and Jefferson County.

Many people only look to the big picture and become quickly overwhelmed by the manitude of large numbers and large goals. Last week when I attended a global leadership conference I listen to a lady discuss how at 43 years old when confronted with the realities of the human sex trade it was easy to be completely overwhelmed with the magnitude -over 20 million people in the world.

However, she knew she could do something. She may not be able to end the problem but she could do something. Doing nothing was no longer a option. She started the A21 project.

It was the same kind of thing that happened to a few of us last year. It would have been easy to be overwhelmed by the magnitude of what would be required to bring our government back to a place of accountability. We hear leaders just scoff when the Constitution or the Rule of Law is referenced..

Instead, we understood that this country was founded on the precept of dual sovereignity. We realize that governments provide checks and balances to one another. And we realized that the most effective place to start is in your voting precinct and work up from there to bring about change.

We deveolped a "In Our County Program" as a way to open the lines of communication with our elected officials on a positive and objective note, rather than a negative one.

We sent our elected officials a letter telling them they will begin to receive post cards shortly that state our expectations of them as our elected officials. The expectations are basically their oath of office. We then request that they return the affirmation that they will uphold their oath of office and agreement with our objectives. We also offer  a forum to discuss any part fo the affirmation they disagree with.

    purchasef

We have had a strong response to our outreach to our public officials with the majority replying in the affirmative. In fact, we will be meeting with the majority of those we have contacted in the next two months by bringing them in to speak at forums on topics such as state and federal mandates and their impact on the county budget/taxes.

Our vision has been to harnass the energy and emotion that is fostered in protests and channel it towards constructive projects that make a difference in our community. In the past year  we have positively impacted our community with the ripples being felt throughout the state. Our successes are now serving as a model to be shared with others to inspire them.

There is really something to taking responsibility for your own world and doing what you can to making it a better place. It has been so inspiring to see others really "get it" , apply the precepts and work together to institute change.

Yep, things are looking up !

  • Tax breaks for the rich?

    Or just a price break?

Rail has long been a subsidy for the well to do who do not want to sit in traffic. Many people, including VP Biden, as well as many from the House of Representatives, use the high speed rail system to commute to Washington DC.

Commuter rail is not only not a good deal ; part of the cost is a underwritten by us. Well, at least Joe Biden was able to live at home and work in DC for years thanks to this break in cost for him and others who worked in DC metro.

They have the lab mice so well trained all they have to do is say "environmentally friendly" and they hop on board...of everything except the train that is!

  • Graham Crackers

    • Talk to me about the constitution a while.
    • Explain to me about the struggle between the federalists and anti-federalists.
    • Tell me about natural rights.
    • Tell me about the source of our rights.
    • Tell me about the fourth branch of government.
    • Was the 17th amendment good or bad for the republic?
    • Explain your theory of federalism and if you view nationalism as a natural evolution of federalism or a corruption of federalism..

I know, what have I been smoking? Those would be too much like real questions you would ask to find out what someones judicial worldview is. Instead we have Senators like SC Lindsay Graham. Mc Cain's bosom bud, Mr.Big Government himself. If Lindsay Graham represents republicanism...it is DOA !

"According to the Washington Post, Senator Lindsey Graham, who voted in favor of her confirmation in committee, said, “‘I think there's a good reason for a conservative to vote yes,’ Graham told his colleagues. He added that she was ‘smart . . . and she's funny, that goes a long way in my book.’"

Being funny may be a great qualification if you’re looking for a date, but such a quote demonstrates the circus Supreme Court nomination hearings have become." (CFL 8/4)

    OMG.

  • Irony

People who know me IRL and what transpired in the background in the primary will find this to be pure irony. I went to a party social tonight and won one of the door prize gifts.

    Hopefully, this provokes some thought.
